In late 2011, Courtney-New were in Thailand seeing first hand “real” business continuity
in action. Following the extensive flooding in October 2011 hundreds of companies,
including many well known brand manufacturers, experienced flood waters up to 3 metres
deep for as long as two months. Supply chains were impacted significantly for some
companies but it was amazing to see how many seriously affected sites were marshalling
huge teams of workers to clear debris, remove silt and clean-up, then stabilise the
environment and equipment to prevent further damage and corrosion. Although many
precision machines had to be replaced there was a significant amount of equipment
which could be restored effectively and it was clear that every effort was being
made to get back up and running as soon as possible. This type of experience forms
the bedrock for the Courtney-New approach to Business Continuity.
